1st – 8th August 2016
From Rome we caught a flight directly into Split, Croatia and checked into a cute air BnB in the centre of town about a five minute walk from the port. Overall we spent about 10 days in Croatia and wish it was longer.
Out of all the places I have been in Europe, Croatia is the one I loved the most. Must be the water baby in me.
Split – we only spent two nights here and the night we arrived we decided to go out which made our time there go quite fast. We did not eat at any amazing stand out places here either because of our limited time so nothing to recommend but I do recommend partying if you go to Split, was so fun! Go to Gaga Bar to start off your night its lots of fun.
The full day we did have we hired a car and drove to Krka National Park. We were quite shocked when we arrived that it was 30 NZD each to get in but because we had driven all the way there we paid the price. Don’t get me wrong the Krka is really beautiful but when you live in New Zealand it really just was another waterfall only expensive and full of people. We are blessed to live in New Zealand and have that nature at our fingertips.
Hvar – To get to Hvar you can catch a ferry from Split which is only about an hour. You can book these online but get there a bit early as there are lots of boats and you more or less have to work out on your own which one to get on. Maddy and Harrison were in Split so met us there when we arrived and we grabbed breakfast at Fig – An amazing aussie run cafe that you should go to if you are ever in Hvar, we ate here three times. Croatia, Stjepana Papafave 35, 21450, Hvar, Croatia . We spent the afternoon swimming and sunbathing and for dinner we had burgers and chips from 50 Hvar. Also really yum, check them out on instagram for some inspo. Sveti Marak 10, 21450, Hvar, Croatia.
The next day we all hired a boat and went out to the smaller islands and beaches nearby. Paklinski islands will blow your socks off. Best day of my entire trip I think if i had to pick one. DO IT.
Dubrovnik – From Hvar we caught another ferry to Dubrovnik and spent three nights there. We were hoping to get a boat here as well but unfortunately we didn’t have the best weather while we were there. We ate at Shizuku a yum Japanese restaurant one night and a vegetarian place one day called Nishta. Buza bar is a cool spot on the rocks where people cliff jump. Ben did it there but we found another spot that you can walk down to from the lock bridge and did some swimming and rock jumping there both days which was fun and nice to not have everyone in a bar watching you do it. Ben and i also put a little locket on the bridge – we are tots cute.
